“Power is not given to you, you have to take it.” – Beyonce Knowles . #TBT to when I photographed Beyonce’s first solo album art for #DangerouslyinLove, launching her solo superstar career, while I was a student @Princeton. . Beyonce and I were equally nervous starting the day, as she had already shot for her album with a famous photographer, and rejected the pictures, and the label wasn’t happy. It was up to me to create with her the image of the artist she was to become, and to come up with ideas to express the themes she wanted, “universe” “nature” and “power”. Luckily those themes resonated with me, and I had shot with her before for Destiny’s Child, so we had fun dancing on both shoots, and many others afterwards. . #setlife #pressure #dontletnervesholdyouback @launch #womenofcolorartists #breakingbarriers #femalephotographer #queenbey #womenofcolorunite . . . . . #Beyonce #Princeton #Princetonalumni #BIPOCwomen #bipoc #Princetagram #womenofcolor #BIPOC #albumcover #beyhive #femaledirector #womenphotographers #womendirectors #femalefashionphotographer #lewiscenterforthearts #indrani #canadiandirector #indranipalchaudhuri #indranipc #blackwomenartists
I am so grateful to the brilliant Tracy K. Smith, two-time US Poet Laureate, Pulitzer Prize winner, and Chair of the Lewis Center for the Arts, who has inspired me with her powerful words and encouraged my journey into academia. . Friends, we invite you to join us to help Princeton become anti-racist, and take a leading role in inspiring real equality in America. Please sign and share this letter (also in bio): . https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfPmfeDKBi25_7rUTKkhZ3cyMICQicp05ReVaeBpEdYUCkyIA/viewform . As both an alumna and incoming faculty, I’m proud of Princeton’s symbolic removal of pro-racist #WoodrowWilson, which I advocated for as a student. And I’m excited that we have the opportunity to now build on this, a real anti-racist legacy of meaningful change. Let’s join together against systemic repression, BIPOC and LGBTQIA erasures, to create a new era of equity and collaboration. I’m honored to announce my Appointment at @Princeton University as a Visiting Lecturer, “Mobilizing Millions at the Intersection of Art, Film, Human Rights, and Social Change.” I’m grateful to the wonderful Dean of the College, theatre writer and feminist theorist @JillDolan, who invited me as keynote speaker at The Princeton Creative Arts and Humanities Symposium, 2018 (pictured here), where I found so much joy in speaking with hundreds of brilliant students. I can’t wait to explore together with the Class of 2024 and beyond, how we can inspire positive change, including supporting women of color, anti-racism, and environmental sustainability, essential to our world. . . . . . #socialchange #socialjustice #humanrights @princetonarts #princetonlewiscenterforthearts #indrani #indranipc #indranipalchaudhuri #femaledirector #BIPOC #womenofcolor @princetonalumni #princetonalumni #princetonuniversity #supportimmigrants #blacklivesmatter #jillSDolan #antiracism #environment #sustainability #diversity #a4p #classof2024 #canadianfilmmaker #indianartist #tigershelping #havergal #femaleasianartists #princetonuniversity

What a delight to work with remarkable artist #KanyeWest, early in both of our careers. I took this photo of him as part of my series in #InterviewMagazine, produced/styled by #GKReid. Kanye was inspired, calm and kind in person; polarizing, outrageous and unforgettable as an artist. But this is no time for presidential ambitions dividing the vote. “I feel that I’m very blessed. But with great blessings come great responsibility”- right Kanye? #votevotevote vote for real change and #blm #lovehimorhatehim #kanyeforpresident = #trump. photo markus indrani . . . . . . . . . #Strangetimes #JoeBiden2020 #Trump2020 #realchange #voteyourpower #femalephotographer #bipoc #lgbtqia #bipocphotographer #blm
“If you feel safe…you’re not working in the right area. Always go a little bit out of your depth. And when you don’t feel that your feet are touching the bottom, you’re in the right place to do something exciting.” – #DavidBowie by Markus and #Indrani . Remembering David with great joy and gratitude. He trusted in my crazy ideas as a young photographer and again as a director, even as he challenged all I thought I knew. Our first project tackled loss of faith in the grand narratives, our last explored the mind of a mass shooter. I loved the way he was always ready to address social justice, equality, lgbtq, mental issues, gun control etc. in subtle innovative ways. It was never easy but always extraordinary working with David. And we had plans for much more… Sending my love to Iman and all of David’s family. . . . . . . #icon #hero #socialjustice #mentor #bipocartists #indranipc
