Challenge accepted, @samiranasr and @torysport. I’ve tried to breathe through (pun intended) my frustration with people not wearing masks but let’s just be clear: wearing a mask is an act of civility, of generosity, of understanding the greater good for your community. By not wearing a mask, you could be spreading a deadly disease. Period. So please #StayHomeIfYouCan, and if you must go outside, then please #WearADamnMask!
Do it for older people, for immunocompromised people, for businesses and for the economic safety of many people that are relying on YOU to flatten the curve. Many lives, including your own, might depend on it. I challenge @lenawaithe, @cynthiaerivo, @kenyabarris, @haimtheband, @kellyrowland, @iammarkronson and @samantharonson!

The documentary I co-directed, “Quincy,” is included in @netflix’s new Black Lives Matter section. My dad’s life and career is a reminder of the unjust barriers and burdens conspicuously imposed on black Americans for 400 years. His life is a celebration of the few who pushed through but also a reminder of the many more who were not allowed the chance or circumstance. This country was designed to oppress Black Americans and the sooner we ALL reckon with that, the sooner we can start to fix the inequality it has created: “To know where you come from makes it easier to know where you’re going.” – @quincydjones

There will never be another like you, Carl Reiner. You will be missed but never forgotten.
Many people have asked how to do the work of identifying systemic racism and how to participate in meaningful change…
There is a primary election coming up in Kentucky this Tuesday, June 23.
What’s happening in Kentucky is a perfect storm of America’s most pressing issues: Breonna Taylor was murdered in Louisville, KY, and STILL there has been no justice. Voter suppression is real — Jefferson County has ONE polling place for 600,000 people. That is not a typo. 1 polling place. For 600k people. *Coincidentally*, this county is where 50 percent of Black Kentuckians live.
Also, Mitch McConnell’s got to go. In his place, we have a chance to elect Charles Booker (@booker4ky) as senator, whose work, politically and on the ground, is in alignment with the change I want to see. Please tell your people about this voting injustice. Spread the word. Donate. Volunteer. This is how we hold those with power accountable. This is how we see real change.
To help, even if you don’t live in Kentucky, click the link in my bio.

Do you actually know what happened to #BreonnaTaylor? Listen to her mother tell the story. My heart breaks for her. The officers who took part in her murder, John Mattingly, Brett Hankison and Myles Cosgrove, need to be charged and arrested NOW!!
1. Call Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer at (502)574-2003 and demand he fire the officers who murdered Breonna Taylor.
2. Call Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron at (502)696-5300 and demand he CHARGE the officers who murdered Breonna Taylor.
3. Call Interim Police Chief Robert Schroeder at (502)574-7111 and demand he complete the investigation immediately and turn it over to Breonna’s lawyers and the Attorney General.
4. Call Louisville residents, CALL your members of the Council and DEMAND they vote to BAN No Knock Warrants so this never happens ever again.
Donate, protest, petition and DEMAND #JusticeforBreonnaTaylor.

#TAKINGTHESTAGE, the concert produced by my dad @quincydjones celebrating the unveiling of The National Museum of African American History and Culture (@nmaahc), re-airs tonight @ 8|7C ON @abcnetwork! Tune in! It was the most incredible night ❤️

We are in unprecedented times. This is an urgent and delicate moment in our lives. Politics and elections always seem like this far away thing that one person doesn’t have the power to change. But what’s happening in our country right now has made it beyond clear how personal politics are.
I know I am anxious and frustrated. I would go so far as to say terrified. But I have discovered that when I get informed and participate the fear gets smaller. Voting is a part of that. I vote because if we want to change laws, we need to change lawmakers; from the Mayor who hires the Police Chief, to City Councils that allocate how our tax dollars are spent to improve (or not improve) our communities.
I vote as an act of solidarity with the BIPOC & LGBTQIA communities. Which makes me think of a Lilla Watson quote I recently heard from @mspackyetti:
“If you have come here to help me you are wasting your time, but if you have come here because your liberation is bound up with mine, then let us work together.”
Voting is one of the ways we can work together. It isn’t our only tool, but it’s one of the most important ways we can participate in dismantling the white/man-made inequity that was built into the fabric of this country.
Black women do this work everyday. We have always been at the center of economic, social and cultural change in this country. Our leadership is often utilized without being centered. When we stand together to work towards achieving equity and power in this country, when we support other Black women who are working to create progressive change in this country, we all win! Everyone wins!
Who are the Black women in your world making a difference? Who are the Black women in your world who could make a difference? Tag them, share this post, and let’s start this important dialogue as we walk towards November and voting for the change we want to see. The time to build our political power is now! #shewinswewin

Standing with @mstinalawson and The Mothers of The Movement to call for the passage of the Heroes Act. This bill will protect the voting rights of all registered voters, and especially the Black and Brown communities disproportionately impacted by COVID-19. Now more than ever, voters need to be heard. To sign the petition, click the link in my bio. #andstillivote
