Cecelia Ahern Instagram – This year I was asked to launch “How to Fall Apart” by Liadan Hynes, you know, be the person who does the speak-y bit at a launch. It was due to be published in May and for obvious reasons it was postponed until June 11th. I was so honoured to be asked to speak about this author and this book because that’s a big deal, and I’m sorry I wasn’t able to do that for Liadan on her very big, important, momentous occasion. So here it goes: Liadan Hynes is one of those rare beautiful souls who is empathetic, compassionate and kind. All the things I love most in a person. She’s a fantastic journalist too which is why I don’t like to be interviewed by her 😁 The last time she interviewed me, we were sitting outside Portmarnock Hotel and I was talking so much and so loudly, falling down one of those thought-holes she sends you on, when, one by one, the bedroom windows started to bang closed around us. Because I’m that interesting…but Liadan kept listening! Not only is it rare to be this kind of person but it’s not easy to transfer all that into writing. She does it so effortlessly in her features, articles, interviews, podcast and now her first book. She understands emotions, understands all the nice and yucky parts of being human and can so eloquently capture these. As you’re reading about a heart breaking, you’re also witnessing it heal and there’s a comfort in that. You’re just rooting for Liadan the whole way through, loving her, her philosophies and her gang of fabulous friends who are all in on it together. This (non-fiction) book is not just for those whose marriage / relationships have ended but for everyone who is hurting in any way. I’m going to use the ‘journey’ word. Get ready. It’s a journey in how to acknowledge your feelings, how to be kind to yourself, how to help yourself feel better and, actually what I took from this, is how to allow other people to help you feel better because you can’t do it all alone. For you if you’re aching, unravelling and/or searching, or a gift for someone else. In these socially distant times, it’s like giving a hug. How to Fall Apart is out June 11th.
