Today is Bruce’s birthday—and a good excuse for me to say quite publicly that I am absolutely, positively, heart-flutteringly in love with him. And while big, sweeping statements are fun, this is also an excuse for me to think about at least one very specific reason that I feel this way. So here’s this year’s reason: Bruce is a kind and patient teacher. Yes, an excellent—even legendary—teacher for his law students. Yes, a determined (if sometimes ineffective) teacher for Bailey. And yes, he teaches me to have more patience, and, sometimes, to have a lot less. In the best tradition of great teachers, Bruce carefully teaches our grandson about the joys of coffee. From the time he was a toddler and sat on the kitchen counter to flip the switch for the bean grinder to his latest efforts to pour the boiling water, Atticus has shared coffee time with Bruce. (Drinking the stuff is only incidental.) Bruce has carefully encouraged him at each step along the way, turning the ritual into an unspoken, but clear lesson about life: the most important moments of our lives are the quiet ones we spend together. Happy birthday, Sweetie. Today is Bruce’s birthday—and a good excuse for me to say quite publicly that I am absolutely, positively, heart-flutteringly in love with him. Happy birthday, Sweetie. Hiking selfie with my guys Burrito for the birthday boy My daddy couldn’t work for a while after his heart attack. The bills piled up. One day, I walked into my parents’ bedroom. My mother’s face was red and puffy. A black dress was laid out over the bedspread—the dress that only came out for weddings, graduations, and funerals. “We are not going to lose this house,” she kept saying. She’d never worked outside the home. She was terrified. But she knew what she had to do. She put on that dress, walked down the street to Sears, and got a minimum wage job that saved our home and our family. I’m thinking about my mother today. I’m thinking about all of the mothers who reach down, dig deep, and do what they need to do to take care of their families. And I’m thinking about all of the ways our government can do more—so much more—to have those mothers’ backs. #MothersDay Bailey does snow angels Windy Monday. In 2019, I said that if Mitch McConnell used the filibuster to hold a Democratic Senate majority hostage—and block us from getting things done for the American people—we would need to get rid of the filibuster. It’s time. Working people have been kicked in the teeth by this pandemic and economic crisis. But a lot of the richest billionaires in America have done better than ever. How much better, exactly? Take a look at the data (link in my bio) to see how much their wealth has grown. In my new book, I talk about how profound, positive change is well within our reach, if we’re willing to fight for it. I’d love to see you at our virtual book tour, starting next week. Sign up at the link in my bio. I asked people to share their stories about dealing with our broken student loan debt system, and boy did I get a bunch. So I started calling some of the people who wrote in. Here’s a bit of my conversation with Imani: Here’s why the minimum wage is a crucial tool to achieve racial justice—and how raising it to $15 an hour will help build an economy that is more equitable and more resilient for all working people. The rise in violence against the Asian American community is horrific—and part of a long history. I’m supporting @MazieForHawaii and @Grace4NY’s legislation to strengthen the reporting of anti-Asian hate crimes so we can stop this violence from continuing unchecked. Thanks @StephenAtHome for the chance to talk about how we build a country that works for everyone—by getting those at the top, including those whose yachts have yachts, to pay their fair share. I talked about three changes we could make to our tax system that would raise about $6 trillion in revenue—more than enough to invest in infrastructure that would let us build a future for everyone in America, not just the rich and powerful. I’ve got a bill with @AlexPadilla4CA, Rep. Joaquin Castro, and Rep. Ted Lieu to create a pathway to citizenship for essential workers who are undocumented. These workers risked their lives to keep our country going, and they shouldn’t have to live in fear of deportation. Kate studied public health at public university so she could serve her community and her country. She paid in-state tuition but still ended up with $25,000 in student loan debt. How is that supposed to encourage other people like her to go into public service? #CancelStudentDebt Chris and I both went to the University of Houston (Go Cougars!). My degree was $50 a semester, because our country invested more in education then. But Chris had to take out loans. We spoke about how canceling student debt would help him build a better future. #CancelStudentDebt TagsElizabeth Warren Previous articleActress Shirin David HD Photos and Wallpapers May 2021Next articleActress Mrudula Murali Instagram Photos and Posts May 2021
