If you are a Utahn or are familiar with Utah, then today is a holiday! The 24th of July. A state holiday where there are parades, BBQ’s, pageants, and rodeos. Pioneer Day celebrates the first Mormon pioneers entering the Salt Lake Valley in 1847. The story goes that Brigham Young, the Mormon prophet at the time who traveled by wagon to the Utah Valley, pointed his finger towards what is now Salt Lake City and said “This is the place”.

I come from a lineage of pioneers, some who immigrated from England, Denmark, and Norway. One pioneer I’m most impressed with was an Episcopalian minister named Daniel Crane Roberts, who wrote the lyrics to “God of Our Fathers Whose All Mighty Hand”.
