26 years ago, Selena’s long-awaited English album was released posthumously on July 18, 1995. “Dreaming of You” peaked at #1 on Billboard’s 200 Chart and became the fastest selling Latin album in history. Two feats for a Latin artist.
This album released a total of five music videos and celebrates her cross-over success with hit songs such as “Dreaming of You” and “I Could Fall In Love” as well as her signature Spanish hits like “Como La Flor”, “Bidi Bidi Bom Bom” and “Amor Prohibido”.

“Amor Prohibido” was released on April 13, 1994 as the lead single to the album and became the first Spanish-language song to recieve a BMI (Broadcast Music Award) in the pop field. The song peaked at #1 on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs charts June 11, 1994.
The location for the music video was filmed at Joshua Tree National Park in California and was directed by Cecilia Miniucchi.

“La Llamada” was released as the second single to the album “LIVE” in 1993. Written by Pete Astudillo and A.B. Quintanilla III, it entered at #5 on Billboard’s US Hot Latin Tracks on the week ending October 23, 1993.
✅ Fun fact: This iconic music video was filmed on a rooftop home in Venice Beach, California.

In June 1995, The Billboard Latin Music Awards created the “Billboard Spirit of Hope Award” in Selena’s honor and throughout the past 20 years has been given to an artist in recognition of their extraordinary philanthropic and humanitarian contributions beyond their musical work. Selena that same year was inducted into the Billboard Latin Music Hall of Fame.
Selena’s philantropic work included visiting schools in Texas educating students the importance of attaining their high school diploma in a “Stay in School” campaign. Additionally, releasing an educational video teaching students the origins of Tejano music and it’s musical blended styles.
Selena also campaigned in raising awareness for domestic abuse in women and linked it’s campaign to local women’s centers across Texas.
One of Selena’s final contributions was her involvement with the NARAS/Grammys foundation for the album “Songs of West Side Story” in which she recorded the song “A Boy Like That”. Proceeds from the album went to help promote education in music and art in schools.
