These bridges are completely natural. They are formed by living roots of trees by tree shaping. They take 15-20 years to build. Most of Meghalaya’s many living root bridges are located near Cherrapunjee The bridges were discovered by Denis Rayen, who, along with his wife, Carmela, started the Cherrapunjee Holiday Resort. Dennis Rayen is as much in love with about the Cherrapunjee area as he is with his wife and he put the living root bridges on the map as tourist sights. These bridges are now world famous because of this.
