As I share in my book “Happiness Becomes You,” I often pray for my fans. This week is Golden Week in Japan and also sees celebrations in Buddhist communities around the world. These festivities include prayerful days to honor Mother Nature, a Children’s Day to respect future generations, and the Buddhist celebration of Soka Gakkai Day in which we appreciate and reflect on the goodness in our lives. Now as ever I appreciate you, my fans, and I’m sending you all love!

Happiest of birthdays to my friend @mickjagger! Here we are having a blast performing “Honky Tonk Women” during the 1981 Rolling Stones American Tour. As I describe in my book “Happiness Becomes You,” sharing a stage with Mick has always been such a thrill for me. Starting in the sixties, when I taught him some dance moves, to this very day, I’ve got only golden memories of our friendship. From the bottom of my heart, happy birthday, dear Mick!

I cherish the memory of performing at LiveAid with my friend Mick Jagger this week in 1985. LiveAid was inspired by the work of Claire Bertschinger, a nurse who toiled to save children in Africa — a touching reminder to appreciate those behind the scenes who create goodness in our world! This great photo is by Lynn Goldsmith, whom I’ve known since the 1970s, and you can find other previously unpublished gems she’s taken in my book “Happiness Becomes You.”

Here I am entranced by fireworks after my 1982 performance at the SGI Buddhist peace festival in Washington, DC. July fireworks remind me both of America’s Independence Day and my own personal independence. As I share in my book “Happiness Becomes You,” it was the 1976 Fourth of July when I became spiritually strong enough to escape the unhealthy environment I’d lived in for so long. I hope July 4th will also remind you to honor your independence and freedom, and spread positivity wherever you go.
