This photograph was taken just 15 days after Sufi was born. Seems like yesterday, when I got him home. And now my little bub is not so little anymore. He is soon going to turn 6 months old & I still recollect him being such a teeny weeny fellow, so light to lift that I would always be extra careful not to hurt him in anyway. And today he has so much strength in his tiny hands & legs that he just can’t be in one place anymore.
Since the time his motor skills have developed, all he does all day every day is be on his tummy and keeps turning round and round and round. There are times when I feel dizzy just looking at him but he doesn’t stop. He is always so excited about touching and feeling things. His beautiful curious eyes want to know everything that’s happening around him. His own sneeze makes him giggle and just one tickle on his nose & a tongue out makes him he breaks into a laughter. It doesn’t take too much to bring a smile on his face. Happiness for him is sitting by the window on his bouncer and staring at the trees and the birds for hours.
Sometimes he makes me wonder, ‘how did I manage to lose this enthusiasm & inquisitiveness whilst growing up and how amazing would be it be to have the same child like excitement, curiousity every single day of our lives?
Thank you Sufi for teaching me how to find happiness in the smallest of things.
I remember telling Nakuul that I don’t have a single photo with Sufi yet & that’s when he got his phone out and clicked #SufiandMaa’s very first memory😍

It’s been a while that I have journaled, so here it goes.
My last fortnight has been pretty crazy. Our house matron had to rush to her village because of a personal crisis and Sufi’s nanny was kind enough to manage the house which now left me attending to Sufi all day. I haven’t kept him out of my sight even for a minute.
Apart from the fact that he needs to be entertained with something new every 7 mins, Sufi is going through sleep regression where he wakes up at 3.15 am sharp every single day. Cries for a bit and refuses to nurse. I rock him, sing lullabies, try to make him sleep. Then after 30 mins when he finally dozes off in my arms, I put him down & he is up again, almost immediately. He then decides to feed and I rock him again to sleep but he now wants to play and the cycle continues.
He’s also just discovered that he can use his vocal chords to get pretty loud and he exercises them every now and then…
I have been waking up every single day feeling dazed and foggy, desperately wanting to sleep for a few hours at a stretch but also NOT wanting to sleep when he’s playing just because I don’t want to miss a moment when he’s awake. Yet, there’s a part of me which needs SLEEP.
I’ve had little motivation to create tales for him or sing to him or even speak to friends on phone and there have been many times I’ve tried to write this post, only to abandon it, midway.
Pre Sufi, when I would ask a new parent about how’s it going, they would say it is ‘Exhausting but so beautiful’.
It made little sense then but hits home at an all different level, today.
P. S – I also decided to make a fresh start today and complete this post and maybe, get some zzzzzzz….

As kids, Nakuul and i were never spoken to about gender inclusivity. Probably at that time, our elders didn’t know much about it or were just hesitant talking about it to their children.
But now, as both of us have embarked upon the journey to parenthood, we are very certain that we want to raise Sufi and create a space at home where he knows that everyone is loved and accepted the way they are.
This is an attempt to share with him what love is without creating boxes and boundaries around it. Thank you @sharvari_marathe for giving the right words to our feelings.
Although he is too young to understand this tale, this piece will be a constant reminder when he grows up, not only to him but also to us that ‘Love is eventually just Love’.

RUM & COKE has to be one of my favourite drinks ever. The one thing I always asked my pregnant friends before I conceived was, ‘Don’t you miss drinking? ‘ and all of them said ‘Nah.. Not really’. I never really got that part.
These were women who really enjoyed their drinks, partied hard & danced the night away. To be honest, I was also one of them.
Today it’s been more than a year that I have done that.
If u ask me ‘Do I miss drinking?’
‘Nah . Not really’. 😃
The high I feel with Sufi in my arms is way more than any spirit can give me. 💕
Having said that, I am still planning that elusive drink in my head the day I stop nursing Sufi. Until then I can do with this little non alcoholic goodie my husband found me in Goa .. 😬
