Warren Egypt Franklin Instagram – Getting the chance to play Des on Grownish has been such an incredible opportunity. Let’s be clear here, there has never been a character like him on TV. Des is a pansexual/queer identifying man who bends gender norms, it’s rare we see a queer character who isn’t condemned to stereotypical ultra feminization, which please don’t get me wrong we needed to see those black fem queer characters as well. But queer people aren’t always feminine sometimes they are masculine, sometimes they are athletes, sometimes they are rappers, sometimes they are fire fighters, shit they are just people. You can’t police people and tell them how masculine or feminine they should be. Des is so damn inspiring living his life as he wants to, how he wants to. If he wants to wear sweats that day he will, if he wants to wear a skirt that day he will. He can do all of this and more with a woman on his arm. He does not care, and he will still blaze your ass on the track any given day. Des continues to inspire me and I’m so thankful for him. I’ve read every text, DM, and email you guys have sent saying how much this character means to you and I understand the responsibility I have to represent the LGBTQ community with this role. I can also tell you that you’ll see way more Des, more drama, more representation, and more walls being broken down in Season 4B on @grownish coming at you in 2022!
