Getting the chance to play Des on Grownish has been such an incredible opportunity. Let’s be clear here, there has never been a character like him on TV. Des is a pansexual/queer identifying man who bends gender norms, it’s rare we see a queer character who isn’t condemned to stereotypical ultra feminization, which please don’t get me wrong we needed to see those black fem queer characters as well. But queer people aren’t always feminine sometimes they are masculine, sometimes they are athletes, sometimes they are rappers, sometimes they are fire fighters, shit they are just people. You can’t police people and tell them how masculine or feminine they should be. Des is so damn inspiring living his life as he wants to, how he wants to. If he wants to wear sweats that day he will, if he wants to wear a skirt that day he will. He can do all of this and more with a woman on his arm.
