We made it because we both identified with being victims of hateful speech and action in our own lives, and wanted to show an audience what that looked and felt like. Because we felt like it wasn’t being discussed. And I’m forever thankful to him and Stephen for exploring this painful space with me. For years I have heard countless friends’ stories of verbal and physical abuse for just existing as an Asian in America. Friends who have ended up in hospitals with bashed-in skulls because the color of their skin threatened somebody’s idea of their own job security and self worth. I’ve been yelled, jeered and spit at in my lifetime. I’ve been told to go back to China more times than I’d like to remember. I’m not even from China. This isn’t news. We just weren’t talking about it. Ask. Make space. Then listen. And find a way to help. We need to be talking about this. #StopAsianHate #Repost @joe.sill 🖤🖤🖤 ・・・ When Leo and I made our segment, “Robophobia”, we couldn’t have possibly predicted that it would release at a time when anti-Asian hatred was suddenly becoming so publicly illuminated in the press.
