Our Lady J Instagram – When young writers come to me for advice, I usually offer them these three things. 1) Don’t be afraid of words. If you need a trigger warning or if you find yourself policing the language of others, then you might be in the wrong profession. 2) Delete your Twitter account. When you type something witty and someone likes it, you feel like you’ve accomplished something. In actuality, you’ve just thrown away your talents to people who don’t care, and worse yet, you haven’t gotten paid for it. 3) Learn the difference between entitlement and confidence. Entitlement — “Why didn’t I get the job? Why didn’t they like my script? The world is fucked up, and this is why I’m not successful.” Confidence — “I understand why I didn’t get the job, and I’m improving myself to become more successful. I understand the changes they would like to see in my script, and I’m going to execute them because my job is to serve the work, not my ego.” If you find this info to be helpful, you’re welcome.
