She was birthing in a hospital and felt passionately about having an unmedicated birth. When her labor began she rode every surge with strength and determination. At 9cm after laboring unmedicated for 24 hours her son had his own plans on his entrance into the world. With fetal heart rate concerns and a swollen cervix a cesarian birth became the best option for him but not an easy one for her. Years later when @anasiya7 called me to tell me she was having another baby she knew that this time she wanted to birth at home with the care of a midwife. When her due date rolled around, labor began that evening. She rushed home from the movie theater and called me and @lamidwifeabby. Things were moving fast, she was already pushing. While we raced over to her, her midwife Abby was on FaceTime coaching her husband on how to catch the baby if we weren’t able to make it in time. Fortunately we did! We asked her if she wanted to get into the tub as she had once envisioned. Shortly after she got into the warm bath water her beautiful Elinor was born (on the birthday of her grandmother). What an honor to get to document and hold the hand of such a strong women through her births both in the OR and the bathtub! Both wildly beautiful and rich with courage. This year has been so special for me as a doula getting to work with the same mamas a second time. Such a powerful reminder that no two births are ever the same (even with the same person). No two babies are ever the same which is why birth dances to the beat of its own drum. Like life itself, birth is mysterious and without a formula. It is wild.

Carson Meyer Instagram – “The first rule of sustainability is to align with natural forces, or at least not try to defy them “
~ @paulhawken

This week I had the privilege of hearing the legend @paulhawken speak on his new book @regenerationorg which is available TODAY ✨

Paul approaches the conversation around our climate crisis with with a profound reverence for indigenous wisdom and nature’s ability to heal itself, to regenerate.

Regeneration is the climate movement that recognizes us as ONE without placing blame on the individual, this is climate movement that turns towards education, inclusivity and empowerment, this is a climate movement that turns away from fear tactics and military terms like “fight”or “combat”, it doesn’t exist as an empty promise for political leverage. Regeneration is to be aligned with life and all of its beauty.

I’m so excited to dig into this book. I invite you all to join me in asking yourself the questions on the last side to see where we can bring more regeneration into our lives and work.
