Mike Theiss Instagram – (Slideshow) This week with @lindbladexp we encountered lots of wildlife while traveling across the Atlantic Ocean aboard the National Geographic Explorer in route to the South Georgia and Falkland Islands (Islas Malvinas). So far we have been really lucky with good weather and super calm seas. The first image shows a black-browed albatross bird casting a shadow over the glass like flat calm seas hundreds of miles from any land. The second image was captured during our encounter with a pod of fin whales. These giant whales surrounded the ship and put on an amazing show which provided us with many photo opportunities. The third image shows a variety of sea birds floating on the ocean following us on our journey. Next we will visit the wildlife on the Falkland Islands before heading back out to the open sea for 3 days traveling to the incredible South Georgia islands, home to thousands of penguins including the photogenic “king penguin”. Fingers crossed the good weather and calm seas continue for the remainder of our journey. Stay tuned !! Photo by Mike Theiss @ExtremeNature | Posted on 28/Oct/2017 16:40:00
