Still so much to process after yesterday’s @NYCMarathon. Celebrating the 50th anniversary of this incredible marathon in our hometown with a team of 86 running on behalf of @everymothercounts. Also, our 10th anniversary participating in it was already a dream for me. Then, I finished very close to my goal at 4:01:20, thanks to my teammate and friend @emzim1. @teamrunemc raised over $400,000 to ensure equitable access to safe and respectful maternity care for all. But the true highlight was starting the race with my daughter @graciebrns and hugging her after she crossed the finish line of her first marathon at 18! Beyond proud of us all, Team. Thank you to everyone who supported us in every way you did. This one will be tough to beat!

I may be better known as a model of the 90’s but I was always proud to have worked in and experienced the industry in the previous decade. I started to shoot regularly for Vogue in 1985 when Grace Mirabella was editor-in-chief of the magazine (1971-1988), who died on December 23rd at age 92. It was her Vogue that introduced me to the first photographers and editors who I would learn so much from at the start of my career. Arthur Elgort, Irving Penn, Steven Meisel, Denis Piel, Jade Hobson, Polly Mellen, Carlyne Cerf, Andrea Robinson. Mirabella had come from Diana Vreeland’s Vogue and somehow still represented that era even if she was hired to bring it into a modern time. I don’t know if I would or could have identified as a “modern woman” at 16 but that’s the role I started to play in 1985. Here are some glimpses of those days in honor of Grace Mirabella. The first and final cover photos were taken for Mirabella Magazine, which she started in 1989.

Inspired by @jennifer.garner earlier. Our family Hair story. @kellytburns Perfect Hair @epturlington Growing out a perm that should never have happened @eturlington The “Cele Linda” and me, the awkward “demonized” middle child with the Sun-In, not asked for, streaks. Dad was always trying to tame the mane too….
Not taken for Halloween but one of the best I could find to contribute to the conversation. 📸 @regancameron_ for @vmagazine Makeup by @ctilburymakeup #zebra #bigkidmom

Too much to say about the one who GRACED my life 18 years ago today. It’s easy to go down the rabbit hole trying to choose just the right memories to share with the world but each one takes me deeper. I guess that will be your continued impact on me. You have challenged me, girl. And I have grown from it all. You call me “Woman”, and now you are one too. Hope we have many more days just like today. Thank you for choosing me my darling, acerbic, sweet, brilliant, favorite daughter of mine. I choose you right back every damn day. 💕
When I became a mom, I realized how little I knew about what women go through to give birth. That’s where @everymomcounts comes in.
For over a decade, Every Mother Counts has played a significant role in mobilizing global attention and resources to combat the maternal health crisis and achieve birth justice.
And today, for #humanrightsday, all donations to EMC are being DOUBLED thanks to an inspired donor. Please join me in giving before midnight tonight by clicking the link in my bio.
