Patricia Isaac Instagram – I did a thing today 🙋🏻♀️.
Disclaimer: for some of you, racers, marathoners, ultramarathonners, this post is going to sound draaamaatic. But that’s ok ✨
First off. I have neevvvvvvvverrrrrrrrrrrrrr been a distance runner. Ever. I loved sprinting as a child and in track as I got a little older. But MILES?!? Bye.
Early this summer I read about this half marathon, and got a punch of “F the idea that running is for everyone else. I can do anything I really want to do.” So I signed up. •
Right away I started a training plan, and got in a good groove. But then…life plot twisted me, and I found it frustratingly challenging to stay on track (accidental delightful pun).
As the race grew near, I schemed all the ways I could get out of it without looking like a quitter – especially to myself.
Fast forward to last week, when I was meant to be away, so JUST IN CASE moved my class to a virtual Half Marathon. •
Now I had even morrre of an easy out, if I wanted it. Who would really care? Well, Me.
So this morning, I found the prettiest spot for my first 13.1mile (21.08Km), to run/sprint/walk uninterrupted. ☀️
And here’s what I learned/experienced:
1. The right emotions can be the greatest motivators. I was really upset about something early in the morning, and it seemed to give me wings. I raged out on the pavement. Until
2. The endorphins, and God-music I had on, and the birds, and the handful of strangers, and the sun on my skin, and the breeze, fuel-injected my heart, that I started to run with a slight skip in my step, Until
3. The meditative state took over. New ideas for things I was stuck on, a sense of calm and deep peace in every way. I surprised myself with, and allowed for, the tears that came in reflection over things, good and painful. And finally
4. The power of the Grace I chose to give myself when I wanted to stop, or felt like I was losing a mental battle. The second I gave myself that – in the form of stopping and just looking up, checking in with my body spirit and mind, I got the second wind I needed. •
Wanted to share this. Especially for any of you who’ve counted yourself out of……well, anything.
Much love, P ✨ | Posted on 14/Sep/2021 07:48:06
