Evelyn Edwards Instagram – It’s true. I can’t deny it. Fountains Abbey is absolutely my favorite ruin I have ever been to. And I’ve been to A LOT. It’s possible that some unknown ruin I have yet to explore may steal my heart… but I kind of don’t think so. The detail that always boggles my mind about how Fountains Abbey became ruin is— when it was bought after the reformation the owner immediately started tearing it down to defray the cost of purchasing the land and buildings. I get it. It’s was expensive…. I just wished he hadn’t have started tearing it down. At least there is some left for us to wonder at. ⁣
