Evelyn Edwards Instagram – Fountains Abbey is now officially my favorite ruin in the planet earth. So if anybody asks … this is it. After the Dissolution of Monasteries by Henry VIII, Fountains Abbey was sold to Sir Richard Gresham. Richard Gresham, interestingly enough, furnished Cardinal Wolsey with all his tapestries at Hampton Court Palace. And after Wolsey died, it was Grisham who paid for the cardinal’s funeral. And it was also Grisham who started to dismantle the Abbey, selling off portions of it.
