These are just a few of my favorite stories from the magical mind of John Patrick Shanley, that handsome devil sandwiched between me and @iamscottiet from our LA date yesterday.
For years, I would memorize and dissect monologues from his plays and silently mouth his dialogue spoken by other actresses in my classes. I wanted to breathe life into one of Shanley’s deliciously flawed heroines.
A few weeks ago, a bomb dropped on my career that plummeted me into despair, disappointment and grief. In the wake of that grief came a call from my witchy sister Scottie that pulled me from the rubble & reignited my creative spirit.
For everyone fortunate enough to get a ticket to tonight’s performance of John Patrick Shanley’s new play, “Drop Off,” I’m thrilled for you. I wish I could read it again for the first time and go on this roller coaster of a ride with you through your eyes and ears tonight! I can’t wait to share this story with you and I’m honored to be a part of it.
I’m grateful to Scottie for being such a generous actress that she always thinks of others to elevate around her. I’m grateful to @for_the_actor for casting me and for her seemingly effortless direction (that I know is a lot of hard work!). I’m grateful to Scottie, @therealdavecoleman & @robyncohenactingstudio for their beautifully tragic and tragically beautiful portrayals of the rest of our family. And I’m grateful to @johnp.shanley for writing Susie, for having me on board and for generously sharing so much of himself and his supremely delightful wit during our time together.
