Rebecca Flint Instagram – ⁣🩰 Ballet has been a lifelong love of mine, I’ve been practicing since I was a little girl, and before that, my mother used to be a ballet teacher too. ⁣
⁣
Designed to take the delicate strength of ballet through to the everyday, independent Shangai designer @lacemadeofficial developed these incredible shoes, designed for every-day wear. Made from fine silk with sturdy soles, and delicate ribbons, it reminded me of my days as a dancer too. 🎀⁣

Rebecca Flint Instagram – THE FRENCH HOOD: FASHION HISTORY 👑⁣
⁣
This headband was made illegal in the 1500s – but we still don’t know what it really looked like 🤔⁣
⁣
💭Known as the French Hood, this layered fabric headdress appeared in paintings all across Europe in the Tudor period. Worn by many queens and noblewomen, upon reaching peak popularity in the mid-century, Henry the 8th even passed a law stating that the wearing of French Hoods with trims of gold, pearls, or jewels would be illegal for women who were not married to a man who owned at least one horse 🐎 ⁣
⁣
Popular imaginings of the French Hood lead us to believe that it’s a stiff crescent of fabric that sits above the head. It’s inspired fashion for centuries, including Prada’s puffy headbands of SS19 👜⁣
⁣
But… what did it really look like? ‼️⁣
⁣
The truth is a little different to the movies. Based on statues, and side-profile images, it becomes clear that the French Hood would have laid flat atop of the head, and less like a tiara than thought. 🏰⁣
⁣
😭 but Sadly, though the French Hood is an iconic piece of fashion history, there are no known surviving original pieces left in existence, leaving its exact construction and styling a mystery lost to time to this day.⁣
