When I think about @patrickdemarchelier I think about places. The many places where we traveled to make pretty pictures in the sun with our various fashion tribes. Cabo, St Barths, Venice, Miami, Los Angeles. But there was also, Tokyo, Kyoto, Rome, and Paris. Here in NYC, it was his museum like studio in Chelsea that never changed where I first met Patrick on a “go-see” in the mid-80’s. He was a tall, seemingly serious French bearded man then, whom I couldn’t decipher a word at first, let alone a sentence. That changed over the years. I learned to interpret everything eventually. The memories and stories are endless really. Another one is gone who was part of an era that is no longer. Rest In Peace, Patrick.

Can’t take any credit or responsibility for this, other than having birthed this wonder to the world and given her the family name she carries with its full meaning and representation. Once again, welcome to the world @graciebrns I love you, Kiddo. ❤️
Happy Birthday @cindycrawford! The story behind this photo makes me smile. It was taken by #stevenmeisel for @voguemagazine It was late and you were ready to go home but I had the giggles and couldn’t keep it together. “The Fat Boys are Back” was on repeat. Why, I don’t know. My request, possibly? Somehow we got the shot and the memory, and so many since. Wishing you your best year yet! ❤️

No words 😢
What a shock to arrive in Kenya today, with so many fond memories of previous travels across the continent, and then to learn about the passing of #paulfarmer this evening. I crossed paths with Dr. Farmer on a few occasions as I was becoming more familiar and enamoured with global health leaders as a student at @maifmailman. Paul’s modest and kind manner drew me in immediately and our interactions quickly grew into a friendship. I visited Haiti for the first time in 2011 with him. What an experience that was! We visited families in their homes in the surrounding area to witness firsthand the “accompaniateur model” and his gentle bedside manner he was known for the world over. To say he had a serious impact on me would be a massive understatement. This photo was taken of us, along with my founding partner @etthornton at the @partnersinhealth campus in Canges. That first visit inspired many others to Haiti since, and also introduced me to other maternal health partners in the region. Some of @everymomcounts’ very first grants were allocated there, toward the new hospital in Mirabalais in the Central Plateau and to @midwives4haiti in nearby Hinche. I was honored to be invited to join his @harvardmed global health council and enjoyed every Master Class I was lucky to be invited to during those years. I feel so fortunate to have spent time with you, laughing and dancing together at the Wozo and seeing your less serious side. Thank you for your service and for the inspiration of a generation dedicated to your unwavering commitment to social medicine and to ensuring the highest attainable standards of health for all. 🙏🏽
Happy belated Birthday to my sister @eturlington My childhood roommate and my go to for recipes and sisterly advice. Thanks for being there always, for your family and mine. Love you. ❤️
I am beyond proud of the collective efforts of @runteamemc. We participated in our 4th #kilimanjaromarathon yesterday to raise funds and awareness for @everymomcounts and our incredible community-based partners in Tanzania who are deeply committed to making pregnancy and childbirth safe and respectful for all. Our mission takes teamwork in the most meaningful sense of the word, and I felt everyone’s positive energy and support, near and far, carry me across the finish line of my 10th full marathon here in East Africa. Thank you to everyone who contributed to my race, especially @alysiamontano @adrianstroi, and @emzim1, who persuaded me to rise to the challenge.

Motherhood is an identity, a calling, a battle, a journey. Along with my friend, @amyschumer I am honored to have collected essays from some amazing women—actors, athletes, academics, writers, small business owners, birth workers, physicians, and activists—who tell their stories of becoming mothers in this book, Arrival Stories, which is on sale today. By sharing our stories, we forge a path toward more open and honest communication about the experience of becoming a mother. The essays the contributors have written are incredible: deeply moving, inspiring, and necessary. We hope this collection will not only offer a true, wide-ranging look at what women feel when they become mothers, but that it will also raise awareness about the grave injustices women of color face in maternal healthcare, and help to support @everymomcounts, which works to make pregnancy and childbirth safe, respectful, and equitable for every mother, everywhere. You can buy a copy wherever books are sold.
