A reminder that Humans who live in melanated skin have been forced to endure a constant and never-ending plight to escape... to be free from racism, classism, nationalism, poverty, discrimination... to simply Be. This short film ‘Marathon’ was manifested in direct response to a lived experience of racial injustice at the hands of a corrupt system shared by myself and a group of friends. Written & directed by @directedbykells with performances from @komiolaf, myself and a plethora of community members who came together to enable a creative expression that can help to share emotional insight into these situations. @paula_whitmore Producers @tamar.bird @sashaleighhenry and Cinematographer @jordanoramdp. Donisha Rita Claire Prendergast Instagram – In May 2010, a grave miscarriage of Justice was executed by the Government of Jamaica with the help of the US, who had issued an extradition order for one man – Christoher Dudus Coke. The operation has come to be known at the Tivoli Gardens incursion. Dudus was not captured during this operation, which was surveilled by a US aircraft to ensure their forces on the ground were protected. Instead, almost 200 people in the community of Tivoli Gardens were massacred and summarily labelled criminals in the eyes of the world. Fathers, sons, Mothers, Sisters… somebody’s child. The statement ‘Innocent until proven guilty’ was not a consideration during the incursion. There were no trials, no judge, no jury… just security forces, armed with guns and inflated egos who were empowered to kill at will. Many families lost loved ones, some of who have yet to receive the bodies for burial. Even after a National inquiry and evidence of negligence and gross mis-conduct, there has been no compensation, no closure, no justice… 10 years later.

What my grandfather gave to this world is hard to quantify in words. He instilled a unique kind of confidence for the downtrodden, an inherent defiance in our living, a new way forward despite the colonial inheritance of our past. As keepers of the legacy it is with dutiful responsibility that we continue to rebel against systems of thought that do not suit us. Quietly, with discipline and humility, we continue to build character and scatter seeds of truth to plant deeper roots. Dem ago tired fi see we face, can’t get we outta di race… 🔥Check out new article on @billboard with a few members of my family and I. #marleylegacy #bobmarley75 #familyvibes #fortheculture #rastafari
