A Visionary, a Teacher, a Survivor, a Souljah, a Goddess, a Queen. Your journey has been nothing short of Divinely crafted by the hands of the Most High. For you, there are not enough words to show how much you mean to me and millions of souls in the physical and spiritual manifest. 74 years on this Earth filled with lifetimes of experiences and HeArtwork. Keep on Keeping on.π₯ππ₯³π¦π Happy Earthday my Sweet Nana. Today, I find myself on a movie set, working… somewhere far from home, creating Art. And you are here , wrapped in your Daddy’s arms, watching, learning, soaking it all in, trying to be patient as I navigate these steps towards manifesting a dream once deferred. I am in awe of you Kitai-Oluwa, every single day. You are brave, curious, loving, adventurous, observant, funny, and such a little souljah already. You have come at a time when the world is evolving from old thoughts into new ways of being. We have never been closer, or as far away as we are these days. I’m grateful for your presence baby boy, and the wisdom that you have already shown me. I’m so honoured to be your Mommy. Now, I overstand so much more about the concepts of Love and Sacrifice. They are Fierce, Divine and Infinitely interwoven in a way that exceeds what we can consciously perceive. I pray that Jah guide and protect you along this journey Sun. May the fruit of my womb know an inheritance as great as the goodness and mercies that have followed I and more. He instilled a unique kind of confidence for the downtrodden, an inherent defiance in our living, a new way forward despite the colonial inheritance of our past. As keepers of the legacy it is with dutiful responsibility that we continue to rebel against systems of thought that do not suit us. Quietly, with discipline and humility, we continue to build character and scatter seeds of truth to plant deeper roots. These past couple of years I have intentionally given myself the space to be able to isolate, insulate, interrogate, internalize, introspect, involve myself in evolving myself. In the silent solace somehow finding a supple surrender, a soulful submission to the sanctuary of stillness. I have witnessed myself challenge even the ideas that I had of myself in pursuit of a greater over standing of my role in this physical manifestation as a human and the potential we have to navigate and create the conditions that frame our collective realities. So much things to say right now… I’ll start with Give Thanks for this Truth: I don’t fit into many boxes, I am easily misunderstood because I am hard to define and my inheritance comes from a place filled with warmth, grace, integrity and divine royalty. I am Donisha. π¦ For this New Chapter, the life lessons that will feed generations through my Art and all the genuine and uncompromising Love & Support from Day One, I am truly Grateful. Give Thanks for another Revolution around the βοΈand all the Earthday Love Iβve received from across the Globeπ. Iβm so grateful for it all. Spent the day reflecting on the journey and all its lessons. The scars that became beauty marks and the wounds that are still healing. The fulfillment of words prophesied and the affirmation of visions that are yet to manifest. I am humbled and ever so thankful for the passion and grace I have come to know. For persistence, perseverance, inspiration and Love in its purest form. I pray that Jah continue to guide and protect my loved ones, family, friends and fellow Souljahs on the mission to Right our story. And when the work is done for the day, and your entire being is tired, disheveled, hungry and in pain… I pray that you will find your strength in knowing you are loved. Surround yourself with people who will shelter you, nurture you, help you wash your dirty feet and fix your crown. #Humanity #BeLove #Royalty #36 πΈ @we.want.ev Reminder to self: The freedom we experience today was not born overnight. It is the fruit of a long labour of love, sacrifice, defiance and rebellion. Blood, sweat and tears punctuate this liberation story. And still… so many of our brothers and sisters suffer because of lack of access and corrupt policies. As we celebrate 4/20, let us continue to advocate for the full liberation of HERb and the communities that continue to face persecution for asserting their rights to the healing, especially during these times when the Earth and humans are seeking a new way forward. #educationbeforerecreation #fortheculture #wehavetherighttoberight #ganja #cannabis #sacrament #healingofallnations Edited by @craftedbyaig Tuff Gong Recording Studios Jamaica Kingston An evening spent with @callmesevana @trad_magazine reflecting on the journey as women through fame, relationships and different versions of ourselves. In May 2010, a grave miscarriage of Justice was executed by the Government of Jamaica with the help of the US, who had issued an extradition order for one man – Christoher Dudus Coke. The operation has come to be known at the Tivoli Gardens incursion. Dudus was not captured during this operation, which was surveilled by a US aircraft to ensure their forces on the ground were protected. Instead, almost 200 people in the community of Tivoli Gardens were massacred and summarily labelled criminals in the eyes of the world. Fathers, sons, Mothers, Sistersβ¦ somebodyβs child. The statement βInnocent until proven guiltyβ was not a consideration during the incursion. There were no trials, no judge, no jury… just security forces, armed with guns and inflated egos who were empowered to kill at will. Many families lost loved ones, some of who have yet to receive the bodies for burial. Even after a National inquiry and evidence of negligence and gross mis-conduct, there has been no compensation, no closure, no justiceβ¦ 10 years later. At the heart of this short film, there is a fire that burns, deep. A yearning for the characters and the story we are telling to be just that… elements in a fictional film. But the truth is centuries old, tales written in history books that repeat themselves over and over again. A reminder that Humans who live in melanated skin have been forced to endure a constant and never-ending plight to escape… to be free from racism, classism, nationalism, poverty, discrimination… to simply Be. This short film βMarathonβ was manifested in direct response to a lived experience of racial injustice at the hands of a corrupt system shared by myself and a group of friends. We Have the Right to Be Right. Art has a great response ability, especially in these days when the world has no other choice but to pause and face up to itself. Film, for me, is my tool of mass construction, my rebellion, my opportunity to start a conversation. Black Bodies has been able to do that. Born out of a feeling of anguish, pain, trauma and neglect, this film dives deep into your existence to try to find the words that can communicate an experience that far too many black and brown peoples all over the world have. It involves the viewer in the journey of a story that may or may not be their own, but inevitably becomes a piece of the fabric of their humanity. Written and Directed by visionary @directedbykells with a phenomenally moving poem written and performed by visual artist @komiolaf, Black Bodies moves you. The film had its premiere at Toronto International Film Festival earlier this year, winning the 2020 Shawn Mendez Changemaker award, as well as being named one of the top ten films of 2020. Most recently, we have been invited by Sundance Film Festival to screen in 2021! Another really huge accomplishment. These are truly amazing moments to experience as a filmmaker. Still, I pray that these moments live beyond the screen, and continue to inspire communities everywhere and defy expectations. May it be a tool used in corporate settings, government institutions and classrooms to create emotional insight that can shift perspectives, and be a voice for those who deserve to be heard.
