They carry the weight of our past & our future, our pain & our hope. They represent all that was lost. The memories that were never made. The laughter that was silenced. The languages lost & the hugs that were ached for. The years spent waiting to hear footsteps of those that never made it back home. Losses deeper than our hearts could or should ever be expected to hold. These shirts are also our hope. Hopeful for a better future where we can stand together, making space for stories to not only be shared but truly heard & held with compassion. It represents making a commitment to heal together & to work hard to create reconciliation in our lifetime. Today may be the first National Day for Truth & Reconciliation, but this is just the beginning of a long journey. With our orange shirts on & our hearts open, this is our time to begin to walk together in a good way. Let’s walk. 🧡
