Throwback to when Titli released.
The one time I got appreciated in public by anyone in the Industry and it was SRK. I remember breaking down and laughing at the same time.
That was also around the time people made be believe I wasnt good enough a singer. The brainwashing was soo subtle yet powerful enough that I was mind-effed into quitting singing altogether. Coupled with the fact that my own Mother-Guru never once said I sang well enough ever I guess I believed I was terrible.
If there was one thing I learned from this man – people always remember how you made them feel. And this man genuinely, truly makes everyone he meets feel like the most important, precious person in the world. I have Shekhar sir and Vishal sir to thank for this.
And guess what – I recorded Titli when i had a neck injury and couldn’t move my right arm due to the C1-C2 on my neck pinching a nerve. The stories of how some of my biggest hit songs were sung always have a pretty strange backstory. I remember I couldnt move my hand to shake hands with Shekhar sir when he came to Chennai to record 🙏😂

Just a thing here – someone who is a psychiatrist doesn’t mean they ll be non-toxic or non-patriarchal.
Education doesn’t change the inbred gender roles that many are raised by. Which is why choosing your counsellor is extremely important. I have known one thing – if a doc name-drops about who comes to them and describes their illness to you – kindly avoid them. Discussing a case for awareness without revealing IDs is different from naming who the patient is and what was done to them.
I don’t know how many know this – One Dr Aravindha Raj came on @clubhouse and harassed the hell out of me saying he is going to reveal my medical records (which he had no access to). Thing is he was piss drunk. I made a video on it which is on my Youtube Channel. The next day some dipshit seems to have given this random abusive stranger my number and my mother’s number and he called and yelled that I better accept his apology. The whined and cried about how I am taking ‘revenge’ on him.
Such people being in the med profession are like a stain. It’s sad but like in every profession there are blots that shake trust.
Gynaecs that body shame women, psychiatrists that are patriarchal- nothing is new in this country.
