This film was brought to life by a collective group of queer, trans, BIPOC, disabled and other marginalized talent & filmmakers during the pandemic in order to raise awareness about the erasure of disabled talent in the industry. Consider it the most extra audition ever created by us for us. Why? Well when the book “A Darker Shade of Magic” by @veschwab was announced to become a film that meant that Lila Bard was due to be cast. Lila Bard is a disabled character with a glass eye in her right eye. Coincidentally, @kelsey_ellison not only has a glass eye in her right eye too but is British, a talented knife wielder, and according to most fan art… looks very very similar! Yet history shows that often disabled actors like her are overlooked or not even given a chance to try. Rather than wait for Sony to consider disabled talent to audition we decided to make it known that Kelsey existed- in a way that undeniably can’t be ignored. Cast or not- this is one of those rare once in a lifetime roles that is at least worth trying for. 1 billion people on this planet disabled- yet less than 10% of onscreen actors are.
That’s why I’m asking Your help. My goal is to get 1 million views. 50k likes. 5k comments. Why? Because the argument against using disabled talent is that they aren’t profitable. Not enough guaranteed tickets sold. If we can get this number of views/comments/likes then Kelsey and I have planned a second phase which is a cost analysis video that can be used to defend any disabled talent fighting for any role against being sideswiped for “financial reasons”.
