Want to change the industry? Type #KelseyForLila #LilaBard @sonypictures to help! This film was brought to life by a collective group of queer, trans, BIPOC, disabled and other marginalized talent & filmmakers during the pandemic in order to raise awareness about the erasure of disabled talent in the industry. Consider it the most extra audition ever created by us for us. Why? Well when the book “A Darker Shade of Magic” by @veschwab was announced to become a film that meant that Lila Bard was due to be cast. Lila Bard is a disabled character with a glass eye in her right eye. Coincidentally, @kelsey_ellison not only has a glass eye in her right eye too but is British, a talented knife wielder, and according to most fan art… looks very very similar! Yet history shows that often disabled actors like her are overlooked or not even given a chance to try. Rather than wait for Sony to consider disabled talent to audition we decided to make it known that Kelsey existed- in a way that undeniably can’t be ignored. Cast or not- this is one of those rare once in a lifetime roles that is at least worth trying for. 1 billion people on this planet disabled- yet less than 10% of onscreen actors are. That’s why I’m asking Your help. My goal is to get 1 million views. 50k likes. 5k comments. Why? Because the argument against using disabled talent is that they aren’t profitable. Not enough guaranteed tickets sold. If we can get this number of views/comments/likes then Kelsey and I have planned a second phase which is a cost analysis video that can be used to defend any disabled talent fighting for any role against being sideswiped for “financial reasons”. Not sure if Kelsey can act? Go to her IG page to watch an audition we created showcasing her talent in a realistic way while also emphasizing why only a disabled person is right for Lila Bard. Film Credits below. Special thanks to @leonunity @kitbash3d @aputure.lighting @theprospectofwhitby @justice_forblacklives and @zalando #disabilitypridemonth #disabilityawareness #lgbtq #lovewins (ps yes I did play Holland 😂- It was Kelseys Idea)
My partner has a glass eye. Because of it she has been time and time again denied auditions when the casting directors find out. Opportunities ripped away. Insults subtly handed behind the camera “Sorry but it’s just too distracting. Sorry but it’s not relatable. Sorry but… this isn’t that kind of film. It’s more for families…” She’s heard it all and throughout this pandemic with in home castings… so have I. I’m tired of it for her- but she always just rolls forward with a grin on her face anyways. That’s why when we saw the role of one eyed street thief Lila Bard (from “A Darker Shade of Magic” by @veschwab ) was up for casting by @sonypictures – we both knew that this was one time that it was worth fighting for a chance. An audition. Despite being professionally trained as an actor, Kelsey (like many actors with a disability) doesn’t have a major agent. As a result we were worried she may not get an a opportunity to be seen. That’s why the community came together and rallied behind her to create one of the most extra auditions ever. And the cast/crew is comprised of lgbtq, BIPOC, beings with disabilities. Including neurodiverse DP @petrosofsparta . This project will be coming to my IGTV on Monday and I am going to work my butt off to get it 1 million views so We can show that actors with disabilities ARE desired- and when casting characters with disabilities they should be prioritized over able bodied ones. We believe @sonypictures knows how important this is! But just in case- we are going to try because life is an adventure. GOOGLE Lila Bard. She looks like Kelsey, has a glass eye in the same eye, is from the same nation and has epic knife skills like Kelsey! To support simply share this post and/or when the video is out on Monday. The birth certificate I came into this world with has the word “Female” on it. I’m 6’2, muscular, have an upper lipstache, large lung capacity and big hands 😏😉 I’ve had no surgery, no hormone therapy, and no implants. This is just my flesh as it is. My identity for myself is simply I am I. I don’t use gender as a part of my identity summary because it’s never been important or useful. I like to just cut to the chase and ask people to sum up who I am and how I am by my own existence. Not a comparison to an entire group of people. But by the standards of that soccer team “Red Hot Riot”- I was a “cis woman”. How do You feel? All perspectives allowed, no one will have comments erased here- please be as kind to each other as possible though. Listen as well as speaking. See comment section for one suggestion I have. 🥰🧐 #pridemonth #sportstalk #transwoman #debate
Tell me your name- your true name, the one You know yourself to be- and we will say it back. Add Your pronouns for extra love. I will respond to every comment on this post made in the next 48 hours. Proud to be your family and see You as You. I want to thank the amazing designers on @makingthecuttv for supporting me this month. These designs (like the one I’m wearing) have been awesome! They’ve been incredibly supportive of intersectional voices and a delight to watch on @amazonprimevideo . If You want to support them check their looks on @amazonfashion or @amazonfashioneu #ad #genderqueer #fashion #lgbtqia #resource #trans #nonbinary You don’t need to be queer, trans or NB to post.
GIVEAWAY! (But first) A lot of people don’t know that I trained to be a dominatrix for a while at the Gates in Emeryville, CA. As a queer person it seemed that the world of employment wasn’t very easily accessible and sex work seemed a safer route. While I was going through my training I was surprised to find out that this world of kink wasn’t what I was told it was. It was actually therapy. It was no touching. It was working people through their traumas. It was dialogue and consent. It was trust. While I didn’t stick with this profession- I did stick with what I learned… which was that it was ok to tell people what I wanted or needed in life. Not just the bedroom. I think a lot of us feel guilty asking for what we want- but I just want You to know that when You tell someone else what You want it gives them the ability to actually love You. Also what I took away is that I will always support safe sexual health spaces they save lives. That’s why I’m happy to partner with a couple of my favorites @hud_app and @shopspectrumboutitque to do a much deserved GIVEAWAY OF A FREE VIBRATOR! HUD is a dating app that takes an alternative, empowered, and inclusive approach to swiping. And their new “bedroom” feature lets you tell all your prospective partners exactly what you’re into, so you can get kinky quick! I even put mine on there 😇. Plus we all love a good toy, so I wanted give you a chance to win this amazing vibrator from Spectrum! To enter: – Tag a friend and tell them that they are worthy of being loved the way they want to be loved – Must be following @hud_app and @shopspectrumboutique – Must be 18 to win – US residents only (I WILL REPLY TO EVERY COMMENT FOR THE FIRST 24 HOURS) #giveaway #pridemonth #morethanwethink #whatsinyourbedroom #hudapp #spectrumboutique #ad
For anyone who feels alone tonight- find Your community here. Right now. Type *HUG* in the comments and for the next 24 hours I’ll type *hug* back. Some other people may send you a hug too! Why? Because You deserve acknowledgement. You deserve my time. You deserve a moment that is all about You. I want to gift that to You because You have gifted me this space to raise voice, money, awareness and more. You’ve changed my life simply by clicking that “follow” button. Thank You. Thank You. Thank You. Thank You for getting me off the streets. Thank You for giving me support when I need to lean. Thank You for creating a community I can find anywhere in the world. This image by the way was taken for a @ukgap series featuring different voices. They invested into a really diverse array of community members and let people say what they wanted unfiltered. The crew was also reflective of our community. I really appreciate that. The reason I decided to hop on this shoot was as an homage to my roots. Gap was a working class brand in the USA. It’s what we wore because it was affordable and durable. While I was on the streets I had a Gap hoodie that lasted a full two years of hardcore outside conditions. It later became a comfort item when I got more stable. I’ve at times been teased for my Gap hoodie- but I don’t care. It’s survival represents my survival as a transient queer person. And Im not ashamed of that. Thanks for letting me tell my story @femalenarratives and @ukgap . Thank You for putting funds into our community all year round even outside of Pride. As with all Pride collaborations- funds from this post will be going to house transient LGBTQ individuals. If You need housing and are on the street DM me to register on the funding list. I am working hard to put revenue generated off this platform into housing our community. Some of these suggestions are a bit controversial- but I’m gonna take a chance here. As You know, I bleed but I don’t identify as female. This menstrual cycle I did a bit of journaling on a few basic things regarding menstrual products that I’d like to see change before I leave this earth. -Dont use blue liquid in illustrations of menstrual blood on ads. Use something that looks like actual blood. Destigmatize bleeding by not tiptoeing. Be casually literal. We aren’t afraid to show placenta birth blood and blood from murders or fights on tv right? -Get rid of the term “feminine products” in stores and adverts. That descriptor not only does nothing to illustrate the function of the product, but it’s also not accurate. And it puts a target on anyone that is purchasing but not “feminine” by societal standards. -If a school has a uniform, make menstrual underwear a free part of it. For any student who requests them. No requirements to carry pads/tampons into school, makes menstruation part of school spirit, and keeps people supported. -Educate people about longterm usage items such as menstrual panties- phase out single use items as accessibility picks up. -Put menstrual product dispensers in all restrooms despite the “gender/sex” on the door. These are just a few things, what do You think? Anything You don’t agree with and why? The comments are being watched so whatever You say will possibly have a real impact! Btw these panties are of course @chantelle_paris . And I’m really proud to say that they are rolling into a new era of inclusive language surrounding their menstrual underwear. I tried them during my menstrual cycle and they legit worked- which surprised me because tbh I was skeptical. And they didn’t feel like a diaper. #ChantellePeriodPanties #ChantelleLife #genderqueer #menstrualhygieneday
It’s my Birthday! And I’ve been thinking a lot about You- and Us! You may have noticed that over the past couple years- I’ve not posted very often. Partially because I’ve been on a journey, trying to figure out the best way to fully realize what I was born to do. Partially because I genuinely never thought I’d live this long. It’s been a wild day processing that I’ve even survived to this point. Survived society, survived fate, and survived myself. I’ve held back posting often because so many beings seem like Saints on this platform- and many people seem to be seeking that Sainthood for themselves. The truth is- my path to where I am has been a bumpy ride and I’ve faltered, stumbled, made mistakes and poor choices at times. I’ve never really been a pure person, because I’ve done a lot of things to survive that aren’t easy to talk about. While I’ve always tried to be a person of service- I’ve not always felt worthy of receiving help myself. However, the past couple years I’ve dedicated it to volunteering on everything from cleaning up after the Australian wildfires to organizing protests with Justice for Black Lives to delivering medication to shielding people during COVID. What was my place in the world and what was the corner I was meant to pick up? And it finally dawned on me. This space over the next year will be dedicated to being a space for anyone else trying to grow too- anyone who has faltered, stumbled or just needs to rest. Anyone trying to be better today than they were tomorrow. Anyone who believes that love is worth more than money. Anyone who has been abandoned or homeless in any sort of way. Anyone who enjoys, conflict resolution, fashion, film and activism. I’m not going to hide quietly anymore. I’ll be posting 3 days a week, highlighting the world, joy, and even showing l bts stuff of everyday life. (Something I also hid- because I felt it wasn’t important to post). Buckle up- this year will be the best yet! #lgbtq🌈 #genderqueer #birthday #lovewins
According to my birth certificate, I am appropriately dressed today. This is what a pretty ‘girl’ looks like. 😉 If You are AFAB and look like this in a dress too- I want You to know You don’t need to identify as non-binary or trans. You can still identify as feminine and female. This IS what a pretty girl looks like. You ARE what a pretty girl looks like. Our identities are not exclusively our aesthetics. Do You agree? Speaking of which I go this dress from @makingthecuttv by @amazonprimevideo – it was the winning look! The designers this season are also pushing the boundaries of fashion dialogue and I think it’s important to see this happening on such a mainstream platform. If You like what I’m wearing (or anything from my next couple posts featuring Making the Cut looks) You can click the link in my bio to snag it off from @amazonfashion @amazonfashioneu ! #Makingthecut #AD #genderqueer #lgbtq🌈 #lovewins #genderisthematrix
This comparison Made the Cut. Lol is this Tim Gunn look-a-like comment accurate? Who are You told You look like? Also speaking of which did You know that @makingthecuttv is back on @amazonprimevideo ? I’ll be supporting the designers by watching and wearing some of their looks over the next month! Which are YOU? Drag Queen? Drag King? Drag Thing? I took a long time to try Drag- this was my first! This video was inspired by the musical Everybody’s Talking About Jamie- which has been adapted by Prime Video into a film! As a person who just identifies as I- I know I am all and nothing. For a while, I thought You could only dress in drag that was the opposite of Your gender identity. Turns out Drag is about being an extension of an identity. Any identity. Most of my life is spent in a form of drag. Everyone everywhere sees me differently. Some see me as male. Female. Alien. Invisible. Existential. I’m in a constant form of performance unintentionally. So I thought drag would be exhausting. Maybe even a bit traumatizing. But it turns out that it opened a door to a feeling of fun, freedom and therapy I never knew was possible. So here is- the first of many drag videos to come. For anyone interested in checking out the film- it’s a queer coming of age story about a 16 year old who dreams of becoming a Drag queen for his future career. It has an interesting community, a supportive parent, and tackles some important dialogue. It inspired me to give creativity a try- and maybe it can inspire you too! Thanks for making this come to life @primevideouk #JamieMovie #DragCulture #LGBTQ #Genderqueer AD
If You are in a space with a family member where You are scared to come out or You are currently being told that Your sexuality/identity isnt ok- I want You to know that You have permission to keep breathing. Keep moving. Keep investing in Yourself. Through time, space, unapologetic unwavering self love- things WILL change. I promise they will. Perhaps the person will shift their perspective. Perhaps You will shift Your priorities. Perhaps time will shift circumstances or context. My parent @mothernaturesmountain is an incredible person. She lives off the grid in the forest, a healer and herbalist. She taught me a lot of important lessons growing up- especially around how to forage, survive and be patient. We bonded even closer when my parents divorced after an abusive relationship and it felt like it was just her and I against a naysaying world. But then in highschool she discovered I was queer. And it didn’t go over well. At the time I was ashamed of who I was. Deeply. As a Christian I felt I was angering God and endangering the emotional health of my grandparents. I also felt- after everything my parent did for me the least I could do is just be normal. I never thought of being queer as a life of hardship for myself- but rather for my family who would have to be affiliated with me. So I tried to make up for it by taking myself out of the equation. I ran away across the country. Determined that I’d rather be homeless than a burden. And I was transient for years. Often my parent offered aid but I felt I didn’t deserve to take it because I felt guilty. Foggy cold nights, sleeping in my car trunk, in backyards and 24hr McDonald’s, broken tent cities, arrested for stealing food from WholeFoods and underwear from Target, dating people just to avoid being alone- I made myself a mess. Drinking. Lying. Hiding. Even when I started to stabilize. So many people wanted to love me but I couldn’t trust them. I was always an arms length apart from anyone I really liked to avoid losing them by never embracing them fully. But then one day my parent reached out in a way that was so pure. It began this healing process. And I couldn’t love anyone more than her. #queer #pride
REMIX THIS and I’ll share as many to my stories as possible. I can’t wait to see what You make- gonna cheer for You so hard! I just got home from the hospital so this will be brilliant to enjoy. Alternatively You can tell me what You are wearing right this second in the comments and I’ll send the first emoji that pops up on my phones random generator as a response. This Milan Fashion Week I’ve been gratefully asked by @cameramoda to be an ambassador alongside @alokvmenon and @jamie_windust to showcase their new ability to watch the #mfw shows online now. (Link in bio) They have been so supportive of the community and are looking to evolve Fashion Week to be more inclusive and I’m so proud of them for taking these awesome first steps. #mfw #cameramoda #fashionweek #lgbtq #pride #remix #remixreels #makethis
We shouldn’t have to play into Gender bias with Gender Capitalism in order to access the best opportunities in life. However, for many years I did so! But now I demand fair and equal treatment from people no matter how uncomfortable it makes them- even for the smallest of things. Yet, despite not employing Gender Capitalism very often anymore one thing hasnt changed. I still open my wardrobe like I’m opening a toolbox. Every item can help me access the world around me through utility or symbolism. For me- a good coat is the ultimate Swiss army knife. I can transform into anyone or any gender perception with a pop of the collar. That’s why I was so excited when @makingthecuttv sent me this outfit from the most recent episode winner! It’s genderfluid, can morph, and the designer is just such a lovely person. If You haven’t yet, go check out Making the Cut on @amazonprimevideo … and if You like this look check my link in bio where it can be found by @amazonfashion & @amazonfashioneu . What is Your swiss army outfit? Do You have anything in Your closet that transforms too? #makingthecut #ad #genderfluid #genderqueer #lgbtqia #loveislove
LETS DISCUSS- Read CAPTION ⬇️ Do we owe the world a protest? Is the fact that we exist also a valid enough form of resistance? I believe protest is a spectrum- and that we need to give each other the space to do what feels like our own fist to the sky. However sometimes, as anguished or exhausted people we can sometimes suggest that if someone isn’t in the street for our rights at all times then they are not doing enough. That if they are taking things easy or enjoying their life that they are selfish, ignorant, or not actually compassionate people. Or valid activists allies. During this #pridemonth I want us to remind each other to take care of each other, respect individual capacities, not compare activism with a points system, and operate as authentically as possible. Have any advice for those experiencing pressure to take on more than they may feel they can or want to engage in this month? Give them some insight below. Let’s remind each other to be kind and be love to our best ability. WANT TO WATCH THE FULL MUSIC VIDEO? This song is called “Change” by @liana.georgi – You can find the full music video on their page. Directed and dreamed up by @vlasunka See comments for cast/crew credits! Lastly- in comments You will find details for @istanbulpride – every year they risk everything just to be together in the streets, often experiencing mass arrests and brutality. If You can support them that would be amazing. The artist lives in Istanbul and works on the pride committee. #lgbtqia #reelsinstagram #indiemusic
