Writing all day. Time for a book and wine break. ❤️ I always forget that input is just as important as output. A dear friend told me, “Always remember to fill your gas tank.” 🧠❤️🧠 My favorite ways to do this are: reading, watching a film, taking a walk without my phone, or meeting up with a friend. Talking to strangers is also a new one I’m learning to lean into. How do you “fill up your tank?” 🧠😮💨❤️ Salt Lake City Utah

A good friend told me, “What’s for you won’t pass you.” I think about this often. ❤️ Whether it’s a dream, or a person, or a moment… just know it will find you. Stay open.

Moving from a small town to a big city can be challenging.
Luckily, I’ve been fortunate enough to cultivate my own little community. So grateful for the wonderful friends & mentors in my life. Invest your time in people who lift you up, and learn to do the same for them.

Communication… is really hard. It’s uncomfortable. To say how you’re really feeling or express what you want or need, is hard. I thought I was good at it, because it always seemed to be a basic skill for an adult, but the more I learn about how to communicate with people, the more I realize how bad other people are at communicating, too. 😂 Perhaps “bad” isn’t the correct word to use, but, you know what I mean.
Thinking back on my past relationships, I feel like I barely communicated how I was feeling at all. In fact, I rarely did.
Now, I practice communication. With my friends. Other songwriters and producers. My family. My professional relationships.
Holy shit. Is this what being an adult is?

Any tips for Nashville?

A friendly tip to newly aspiring songwriters.
❤️🎼❤️🎼❤️🎼
1. Don’t wait for the expensive, perfect set up. With technology today, you don’t need a fancy studio. Some of the top songwriters and producers I’ve worked with, create their tracks in their bedrooms, garages, living rooms, etc. You have no idea how many closets I’ve cut a vocal in that have been converted into a “vocal booth.” You don’t need intricate set ups. 😉
2. Send in your best work. I’ve received so many emails that begin with — “This is just a very rough demo,” or “It’ll sound way different/better when…” Don’t do this. Please. Invest in yourself. Take the time you need to send in something that represents your full potential and BEST work. Publishing companies rep a lot of different writers and they get a lot of cold emails. It’s competitive.
3. Research the company you’re submitting to and make your email genuine and personal. WHY this company? Come from a place of authenticity and teamwork, not a random cold email that begins with “to whom it may concern.” And keep your initial first email as short as possible.
4. Once you land a great publisher or sync company, pretend like you don’t have them. Work like you have no one to carry you. Learn to pitch yourself and create positive and genuine relationships with other writers and producers.
5. And lastly, it’s a small bubble. Don’t talk shit about other writers or producers. “So and so got this placement and their song wasn’t even that good.” Come on. Don’t be that person. I mean, besides it being a small world and things circle back to people, it’s also just kind of an asshole move. A rising tide lifts all ships. Celebrate your wins and the wins of your peers.
Happy writing. ❤️❤️❤️

“Little Fires” comes out this Friday with @meganddiamusic 🔥🔥🔥
“You don’t see the little fires when you’re breathing in the smoke.”
My therapist told me not too long ago (Yes, I sound very LA right now), that it would take being hit by a tidal wave for me to leave the relationship.
If your home is up in flames, you get out, and fast.
But what if they are just little fires… flickering in every corner. You get used to them. Maybe you even don’t notice them as much.
“We’re brightest just before we burn out.”
Can’t wait to share this one with you all. And for those of you surrounded by your own little fires… I say this with all the love in my heart… get the fuck out. 😘🥰😘

And that’s a wrap on “Merry & Gay,” @christintello newest holiday romcom. Being on a film set is my happy place, especially when it’s with an incredibly talented cast & crew. Feeling overwhelmed, incredibly grateful, and sad to be leaving this beautiful story.
A huge shout out to the insanely talented @christintello for having me on. @davidychung for being a mad scientist DP, and @staydandi for always standing in for my eye line and killing it in every scene😅😂.
