I’ve witnessed how war can rip a child’s life apart; how spaces that should be “safe” – like a child’s bed – no longer are and what that does to a child’s psyche. The pain of losing a parent or sibling; of seeing friends blown to shreds; the mangled mess of a classroom; the confusion of seeing a parent’s panic, of having that solid figure in their life disintegrate and then try to build themselves up; of losing that sense of “home”, with all its warmth and security.
There are so many layers to trauma borne out of conflict. Trauma is unique to every individual but treatment in children is particularly complex and requires specialized expertise. At my charity @inaraorg we have that.
The earlier it is addressed the better the outcome. As an immediate response to the impact of the war in Ukraine, we will be providing direct training and mentoring support to mental health professionals, social workers, and others hosting displaced children.
We will also facilitate fundraising and logistics for small organizations hosting vulnerable children, such as orphans, to enable them to meet their needs.
We will keep this under continuous review as we seek to better understand the gaps left by the wider international response and identify where the expertise of INARA can best add value to that effort.
