“For want of another, beauty is a reason to live.” – Meg Mason, from ‘Sorrow and Bliss’ 📖 Here’s my daily dose of beauty that I wanted to share 🌳Lately I’ve been making it a priority to seek out sources and moments of beauty at least once a day. I think after spending months of being indoors at my desk alone took a toll on my spirits and I realised in the aftermath that getting outside to admire the beauty in the world is just something my soul needs. We often cheapen and degrade beauty by fixing it in our minds as being synonymous with cold, hard, impossible, physical perfection but to me beauty has a transcendent quality. I haven’t always honoured this need as I still sometimes dismiss it as frivolous or self-indulgent, that there are more important things to do, but honestly, beauty restores and uplifts my soul in a way that is intangible, inexplicable and deep. And that is kind of divine ✨
Holy shiz, just under a month to go until publication 🥲🙂😰 link in bio to preorder, yada yada… To say I am dreading publication day is a massive understatement. I am so bloody scared!! I keep waking up in the middle of the night gripped by a sense of how surreal and horrifying it is that this is being published. Thoughts of: ‘what?! Did you really write that down? For strangers to actually read?? Why oh why did you not just write fiction?!’ Which is bizarre because it was my own bullish insistence that drove me to write this book in the first place, when nobody in particular was asking for it. So I’ve been investigating why I feel so uncomfortable and anxious and I realised it’s because there is too much me in this book. I don’t really share my full self with many people, it feels like too much for anyone to handle, to like or accept. I have gotten pretty good at censoring and curating how much I show to other people. At manipulating people’s perceptions. Which feels so nice and safe but it also feels…fake…disconnected…lonely. And I think that’s why I wrote this book: to be real and honest and dark with people so I can truly connect with other human beings. I’m sick of living primarily in my own head. Recently I did a meditation with my spiritual fairygodparents @catherine_maguire_edge.walker and @vincentmcmahon who guided me to visualise all the things I love and why I love them and all the words that came up were ‘intense’ ‘colourful’ ‘expressive’ ‘vibrant’ and I remembered how much I love things that are too much. I love love love people who are too much, too bright, too big. So even though it’s so fucking scary to be this exposed and to show up in all muchness I think it’s what I’m meant to do. Maybe it will be too much for most people. Maybe you’ll hate it, maybe you’ll leg it in the other direction. But that’s fine because I think you’d have found that out eventually anyway.
