A poet, first. “Antisocial media” is about my experience as one of the prominent early faces of short form content and “influencing” as a job. I felt I got too much too quickly and it overwhelmed me to see how unfair the world is, from the rare perspective of the privileged. I didn’t know how else to verbalize my feelings to my audience, I felt responsible for leading so many into a path of over sharing, giving up their anonymity, capitalizing on their most intimate moments. This piece was highly praised upon its release, then highly mocked a couple years later when the tides of favor turned. I feel the same about it now as I did then: it’s poignant, well written, honest, and technically sound 🙌 I started music bc I needed to create a promotion for my poetry. A poet, first.
