Rebecca Flint Instagram – Thereā€™s no greater thrill than wearing clothes you have sewn yourself šŸ‘—šŸ’ƒā£ ā£ A few weeks ago I decided to finally make use of an old pair of vintage floral curtains šŸ”ā£ ā£ Heavily inspired by 70s Prairie dresses, in particular, vintage Laura Ashley, this dress features a standing collar, lace detailed yoke with frill, leg-of-mutton sleeves with lace panels and pearl buttons, and a mighty skirt which holds more than 5 metres of length šŸ˜±ā£ ā£ Thereā€™s still things I would try and improve on if I could sew it all over again, but Iā€™m focussing on enjoying the fruits of my labour and the peace I had when sewing it šŸ§˜ā€ā™€ļøā£ ā£ If you sew too – tell me – do you always have the fear that for some reason itā€™s all going to fall apart as soon as you leave the house and be left bare? Rebecca Flint Instagram – The Loverā€™s Eye šŸ‘ļøā€šŸ—Øļø a romantic and rare regency era trend in miniature portraiture ā£ļøā£ ā£ Less than 1,000 original Loverā€™s Eye miniatures are known to be in existence, so I had no choice but to try and paint my own! Iā€™m no artist, but I took to my paints with my finest brush at hand šŸ–Œļøā£ ā£ WHAT IS A LOVERā€™S EYE PAINTING?ā£ ā£ Before we had cameras at our disposal, for the wealthiest of the past, a miniature portrait was the only way to keep your loved oneā€™s likeness on hand. ā£ ā£ Said to be invented by Prince George of Wales šŸ‘‘, in pursuit of a woman he was not permitted to marry, he instead sent her a small portrait of solely his eye in one of his love letters šŸ’Œ prior to their secret engagements. In return, she commissioned an eye portrait of her own for him to wear around his neck. šŸ‘ļøā£ ā£ Eyes are the window to the soul, and by reducing the miniature portrait to only an eye, intrigue and anonymity could blossom šŸŒø as a result. These trendy portraits became a tokenistic way to secretly carry your lover with you, without exposing who they may be.ā£ ā£ Why not try and create your own too? Mayfair
