The stunning herd were modelled on a real-life wild elephant that roams the Nilgiri Hills in Southern India – a special place where humans and elephants are sharing space. The legacy of London lives on: – skilled indigenous communities continue to make the elephant sculptures and live alongside the wild counterparts. They know each of the wild elephants by name and understand their behaviour. They know what crops to plant; where to walk and are deeply connected to nature.
