Alfie Allen Instagram – The statue of Edward Colston that was torn down in Bristol. Sir Geoffrey Palmer, a civil rights activist and professor in Edinburgh, argues that their statue of Henry Dundas should not be torn down, only that the wording on the plaque beneath the statue be changed. His argument being, if there’s no evidence of the atrocities that were committed by these slave traders, how can future generations learn about Britain’s huge role in the slave trade til 1833… At the same time, if we can get this type of information taught in our schools as compulsory… that is also how future generations can learn, TOGETHER, with children of all different races, in one classroom. Surely this could help eradicate the feeling that so many white people have of being threatened when presented with this info, if it’s taught to children when they are young?
