To meet parts of ourselves not yet discovered; to immerse ourselves in the present the way only traveling can; to be overcome by wonder and magic, to gain new perspectives, new appreciation for the things we take for granted, and receive inspiration. I find myself enthralled by the architecture here. At some point, when the delirium from jet lag and hours of running on adrenaline, from hauling my bags cross the world sets in, I notice that maybe I am not drinking in the world around me, but rather the other way around. Are we in 2022 or somehow in some time past as well? Time becomes a funny concept, and if I stare at anything for too long, I can be swept away into another dimension entirely. I lose concept of separation, feeling at one with everything in the universe. And yet, I am here. And then here becomes something else. It becomes something far more surreal than the pictures and videos can properly reflect. I remember that I am alive, and I contemplate the lives of the people who built the cobblestone streets I’m walking, the colorful buildings with their charming shutters, in which many undoubtedly faced unimaginable hardships. I remember the wars endured, and remember how very fragile and vulnerable humans are. I remember my worth, who I am, and the responsibility I have to leave something of value behind for the next generations, despite my fears that there may not be many more. Then I remember that all the former generations have probably thought the same. I remember that thoughts, beliefs, dreams, they’re all part of the grand ocean of consciousness, which no one owns, but of which we are all apart, that we’ve all drank Cleopatra’s bath water, and that each of us has a true voice so unique and valuable that it has the power to create worlds.
