Cecily Strong Instagram – SNL’s design departments are unreal. That wig was a big deal because she had to be period but also sexy and messy and have movement because it’s Liz for crying out loud! But my favorite thing about this sketch is that the first joke is an homage to Xena Live at the About Face theater in Chicago starring Elizabeth Laidlaw and Alexandra Billings which i think I maybe saw in 1999 or 2000? Alexandra Billings played Katharine Hepburn in a running commercial gag and wow I loved it so much and it is something i have quoted now for I guess 85 years or however long it’s been since 1999 (WhuTheFuuuuu?!?) Up there with Jerri Blank and Sheila Albertson in blowing my teenaged brain wide open.
