Nicole Seah Instagram – During house visits with the team in Bedok South Road, we encountered an elderly resident who used to run a business renting out commercial air conditioning. He shared that technology developments in the last few decades have changed unexpectedly and suddenly. One poignant change that he spoke of was the bankruptcy of Kodak, which used to be a ubiquitous household name. I remember buying film rolls as a primary school kid and loading them into a camera, and then bringing these rolls to a shop in Parkway Parade to develop the photos, which would usually require a few days’ wait. That practically changed in a matter of years as people started to buy digital cameras for their social media posts, and subsequently smartphones upped the ante with in-built cameras that quickly became everyone’s mode of capturing shots. It can take a few years for circumstances to shift mindsets and behaviours, and it is up to the business owner or individual to be vigilant and self aware in identifying these changes before the impact starts to kick in.
