Tarun Lak Instagram – “Clickety-clack, chugging along the track. We cannot go back” This was the first spread I worked on for ‘The Moon from Dehradun’ 🌙 and also took the longest. It was the heaviest scene to draw to carry the reality of hoards of people having to flee across the border on trains, literally packed to the roofs of the carriages. I tried to show a little story with each of the individual people in the crowd, since they would’ve all had a unique experience going through the traumatic Partition. This still being Azra’s story, it was important to show it from her point of view. I played with a few compositions before landing on this one, with the help of my art director on the project. A print of this will be hung up at the Original Art Show by the Society of Illustrators in New York. If you’re around November 10 to February, feel free to drop by.
