But this is just the beginning of your Big Life—on your own terms. You’re not here to live small. And this isn’t about living someone else’s idea of what success looks like. You’re not here to tick the boxes: big house, fancy title, hot car. Let go of all the “shoulds” –all the ways other people tell you what should matter or how you should build a life. This is your life…and it’s going to be BIG.” 💜💜
I refilled my cup with Joy and Happiness! I celebrated my birthday this weekend surrounded by people who love and support me and who I LOVE and support in return. My goodness, I feel so profoundly lucky to be connected to these people. We danced outside to Prince, ate pizza, drank a lot of rose—and most importantly we hugged! Cheers to another year with more TOGETHERNESS. 🥳
Five years ago today, in the middle of a snow storm, The Big Life was born! This book has changed my life. I had the honor of interviewing Madeleine Albright in 2006. She walked in the room and immediately filled up the space with her commanding presence. I excitedly told her about the work I was doing then with teen girls and how they were strong, focused and preparing to lead our future…she looked at me over the top of her glasses in a way I generously describe as “firmly” and said “you’re young, why aren’t you doing more, why aren’t you more successful?” I was stung. I thought I was doing pretty great as the executive editor of a big-time mag. But I gathered myself and said “I’m doing better than my mother, who did better than her mother. And I’m helping the next generation do better than me.” I’ve thought a lot about this moment over the years…I don’t think she meant to be unkind, even though it felt that way at the time. I think she was impatient for progress, for equality, and for real POWER for women. It’s not enough to make small incremental gains. She was telling me that I shouldn’t sit still, that there was more to do…more I could do….and so I did, and so I am. #newpower #madeleinealbright @theli_st
