Donisha Rita Claire Prendergast Instagram – Part 1: A conversation with writer/director Helene Lee about Pinnacle and the legacy that Leonard Howell created in the mountains of Sligoville, Jamaica during colonial times (1939-1954).
Pinnacle stood for liberation to formerly enslaved African descendants who were seeking a space to heal from slavery and evolve on their own terms. It quickly became a developing Nation with love & come-unity at its core.
Leonard Howell shared the same sovereign principles of self-reliance and self-realization as Marcus Garvey. He guided the community into becoming self-sufficient through farming fruits and vegetables which were sold to local business and at the market. They also farmed Ganja and sold it to the Indian indentured labourers who had replaced African labour on the plantations.
Pinnacle was destroyed on May 23,1954 under the direction of Alexander Bustamante, now recognized as Jamaica’s first National hero. 8 years later on Aug 6, 1962 England grants Jamaica Independence.
In 2022 the Jamaican government continues to neglect their responsibility to RIGHT this history 68 years later.
We Must Not let this legacy die.
