I am so in love with my dog.
We’d just gotten into bed tonight, when I caught her trying to clean her feet, so popped her in the bath tub for a quick paw scrub.
After I finished her blow dry, she transitioned into her usual zoomies, but this time around grabbed my slippers and tried to persuade me to play an old game we hadn’t played since she was a pup – she hasn’t grabbed my slippers for about 18 months. It made me so so happy to see how excited she was playing an old game she used to adore.
After a few minutes of slipper wrestling (don’t knock it until you’ve tried it) I did my end of play command – ‘finished now’, and she immediately dropped the slippers and calmed her little excited self down.
I lifted her back into her pink fluffy doughnut bed – which is on my bed – and as I did so, she really looked up at me, holding my gaze more firmly than usual. It was like she was thanking me. Thanking me for making her all clean, and warm and for taking the time to play her favourite puppyhood game. Her sweet look was saying ‘thank you for understanding me and loving me Mummy’ 🥹
It really amazes me how two completely different species can create such an incredible bond ❤️
