I never posted any “goddess” style pregnancy photos, because while it was a beautiful experience, I was never fully in awe of my body’s capabilities until after I gave birth. Once I held my daughter for the first time, it started to hit me. Now she is 8 weeks old. We have spent almost two months together, during which her only sustenance comes from my body. I have healed completely from childbirth, and even begun to practice yoga again. For the first three weeks postpartum I basically never slept, as I had to feed Eden multiple times a night. I’ve never been so sleep deprived, yet somehow my body keeps going. When you have a baby, your hormone levels go from the highest to the lowest instantaneously, which results in night sweats, and more impactful, crippling anxiety. At least in my case. I like to think of myself as a capable person, but this experience has humbled me beyond anything I could have ever imagined. I cry almost every day, usually because I am afraid I will do something “wrong,” but yesterday I cried because I love her so much, and I’m so grateful and in complete awe of the gift that she is and the fact that we created her, she grew in and was protected by my amazing body. Which, by the way, is bigger than it used to be… and which I shockingly couldn’t care less about. My body shepherded my amazing daughter into the world, and I am so proud of it.
