I remember my first time on a movie set. It was doing extra work. I was 16, it was winter in Vancouver and 30 of us were packed in a tent outside huddled around 1 heater. It was a 22 hour day.. and you know what, I loved it. I would watch the actors perform, the directors direct, the DOP lining up a shot, the AD’s hustling about, the hair, makeup, costume department bringing characters to life and the set dec turning fantasy into reality. The prop masters, the sound department, the stand ins, STUNTS! Special FX. It blew my mind. And still does. This insane industry of individual artists coming together and at its best operating as a hive mind, and at it’s worst utter chaos. Sometimes it can be tough to weather the storms of the ups and downs, but there will always be crafty(thank god for you) and if you’re lucky, maybe even space around the heater with some new friends. Here’s to everyone who ran off to the circus. I love you.
