I believe that there are four pillars of postpartum recovery; Nourishment, Rest, Touch and Support. Postpartum looks different for everyone and needs are unique to each family. Here’s how we’ve been navigating our transformation. - NOURISHMENT: Healthy meals (mostly in bed) to support lactation and recovery from @wearechiyo and home-cooked by the lovely @wombtowaddle from @motherbees cookbook. - REST: For us, rest means not hosting until we feel ready, putting work aside and bed sharing (which is so important to me it will be getting it’s own post. ) - SUPPORT: Wonderful friends, the best partner and a long list of birth workers to turn to makes all the difference. This week I zoomed with @bellibind and @allisonoswald. I made a long resource list that you can find on my website of all of the best doulas, lactation consultants and more. I’ve leaned on most of these people as a doula and throughout my own pregnancy and postpartum. - TOUCH: Many people think that a postpartum doula is there to care for baby. Although that may be the case for some, my postpartum doula cares for me so I can show up for Lou. She provides healing touch through body work that calms and resets my nervous system. Our culture, economic model and healthcare system are not set up to support the optimal health of mom and baby after birth, making it very challenging for many women to receive proper care. In the US these pillars are seen as luxuries, but in other cultures they are viewed as necessities. There are many ways families can set themselves up for success and @littlehoneymoney is one of them! It’s such a brilliant concept that is changing the landscape of how we show up for new parents and has been such a gift to us!
