Roman Muradov Instagram – I’m in Paris! Signing tomorrow, Wednesday the 25th 3-6pm at @bullesentete15 235 bis boulevard Vaugirard. Between the lines, the book is an inversion of two famous short stories—James Joyce’s the Dead and Shirley Jackson’s the Lottery. I wanted to revisit my early influences, as well as my own early obsessions before moving on. Drawing it was a difficult experience—the story was initially inspired by the death of a close friend, and though the narrative eventually “wrote” all traces of her out of itself, the memories were always there in the details and whatnot. But after I finished it I started drawing and writing in a more relaxed manner, and it felt like I finally earned the lightness that I’ve always aspired to. So whatever I do next, it will be very different! The dream is to focus on the story and comedy, not style, and hopefully end up with something like Succession, or at least Peep Show.
