Golshifteh Farahani Instagram – I spent a month in the summer writing about the sense of belonging in exile. It was poetic, personal and not political. It was before Sep 13. Then I told @nytimes that I had to change it. It felt wrong to publish something that personal after what happened. I felt I had a different duty. To myself, my conscience and the people of Iran especially our own Generation Z. Then, again and again, the revolution kept getting more and more intense. So, I had to rewrite the article one more time. Every day, every week I could write a new article based on what is happening in Iran. This version was submitted 4 weeks ago. Yet it’s still accurate. I called out @michelleobama @oprah and all the feminists of the world, especially in the USA, for being too silent. My sisters fighting for freedom in the streets of Iran need your voices! They need the voice of the whole world.

“The women of Iran, the young people protesting on the street, are saying, ‘We don’t even want reform. We want an end to this dictatorship.’” So declares Iranian-born, New York-based artist Shirin Neshat (@shirin__neshat) in “Women, Life, Freedom,” a new Vogue-commissioned short by Roxy Rezvany, the British Malaysian-Chinese-Iranian filmmaker behind 2018’s “Little Pyongyang.”
Conceived against the backdrop of Iran’s roiling protests—which began in September after the death of Mahsa “Jina” Amini, a 22-year-old visitor to Tehran from the city of Saqqez who was detained by police for allegedly wearing her headscarf incorrectly—the film engages three leading Iranian creatives, actor @golfarahani, Neshat, and designer @pariafarzaneh, in a moving conversation about oppression, bravery, and hope. Framed portraits of Sarina Esmailzadeh, Asra Panahi, Hadis Najafi, Hananeh Kia, Minoo Majidi, Mahsa Mougouyi, and Nika Shakarami, meanwhile, pay tribute to the many who have been killed since demonstrations began.
At the link in our bio, director Roxy Rezvany reflects on the meaning behind the project and the protests in support of #mahsaamini.
