High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) has been the gold standard for weight loss until EMS came along. However, the area where EMS scores above HIIT is that EMS is low impact compared to HIIT and hence has less chance of injury. It’s important to note that people think HIIT epitomizes weight loss. Yes, it’s true up to a point. But in fact the EPOCH effect is one of the most important factor in losing weight, along with nutrition. The EPOCH is extra post-exercise oxygen consumption of EMS is more than HIIT. EMS 20 mins, the calories consumed per session including EPOCH are 780 to 930 depending on whether you are going stretching or metabolic training. For HIIT 20 minutes of calories consumed, including EPOCH is about 270-360 per session. So if one does HIIT 2 times a week then approx 540-kilo calories to 720 kilo calories are consumed. Hence EMS once a week consumes more calories than HIIT two sessions per week. Remember is always quality over quantity.
