I hadn’t been surfing for over 3 years it was so good to get back to start off 2023. I was pretty unsure if I could remember how to do it…..apparently it’s just like riding a bike 🚲 🧐

After sinking into a very dark place in 2018 I decided to leave all my medication behind and travel alone to Costa Rica for a month (against everyone’s advice) in search of feeling joy and hopefully recovery.

Surfing every day, healthy food and some disconnect in the jungle felt like it was worth a try. I paddled and paddled and paddled, the conditions in rainy season are pretty unforgiving and heavy at times, it became about survival rather than my pointless debilitating and destructive thoughts. Mother nature kept me in check in, combine that with some generous souls (Monty thank you 🙏) it changed everything. Without really realising I’d allowed myself the best remedy. This place will always be special to me ❤️
