Michelle and I are thrilled to have the Democratic National Convention return to our hometown next year. On Transgender Day of Visibility, Michelle and I want every trans person in America—and across the world—to know that we see you and we stand with you. Dignity, equality, and justice are fundamental to ensuring that all LGBTQIA+ people feel safe and protected. Today would have been Dr. Maya Angelou’s 95th birthday. When I awarded her the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2011, I talked about how this phenomenal woman changed the world with her words. Today is a good day to re-share it: As a girl, Marguerite Ann Johnson endured trauma and abuse that actually led her to stop speaking. But as a performer, and ultimately a writer, a poet, Maya Angelou found her voice. It’s a voice that’s spoken to millions, including my mother, which is why my sister is named Maya. By holding on, even amid cruelty and loss, and then expanding to a sense of compassion, an ability to love—by holding on to her humanity—she has inspired countless others who have known injustice and misfortune in their own lives. I won’t try to say it better than Maya Angelou herself, who wrote that: History, despite its wrenching pain, Cannot be unlived, and if faced with courage, Need not be lived again. Lift up your eyes upon The day breaking for you. Give birth again To the dream . . . From our family to yours, we hope you have a happy and blessed Easter! 🐰 Centuries ago, two shoemakers from Ireland boarded a ship to America with faith in an uncertain future. In all their dreams, I’m not sure they could’ve imagined their two great-great-grandsons would be sworn in as United States Presidents. That’s the promise of hope. Proud of all that @JoeBiden and his administration have accomplished these last few years. He’s delivered for the American people — and he’ll continue to do so once he’s re-elected. Let’s get to work! joebiden.com Thirteen years ago today, I signed the Affordable Care Act into law. The night the ACA passed was incredibly meaningful, because we knew the law would have a profound impact on the lives of millions of people. And it has. Since 2010, the ACA has provided more than 40 million Americans access to health care, expanded Medicaid to 40 states to cover millions of low-income adults under 65, and protected more than 100 million people with preexisting conditions from losing their health insurance. I know so many of you have a story of how access to health care changed your life, in big ways or small. I’d love to hear them. Thirteen years ago today, I signed the Affordable Care Act into law. Thanks to all the volunteers who helped the @ObamaFoundation clean up Rainbow Beach, Washington Park, and Jackson Park—the future home of the Obama Presidential Center—for Earth Day. It’s great to see folks from the community, Obama Foundation staff and their families, and young people from @MBK_Alliance and @GirlsOpportunityAlliance come together to give back to our community. To mark 13 years of the Affordable Care Act, we spoke to a few folks who know first-hand the sense of dignity that comes with health coverage. They thought they were going to be talking to two ACA policy experts who worked at the White House. Turns out, they were! Everybody deserves access to health care. Today @POTUS and his administration announced a new plan that will expand health care coverage for DACA recipients. This is great news and will be life-changing for Dreamers across the country. Some of the young men in our @MBK_Alliance program were part of the behind-the-scenes action during this year’s @MarchMadnessMBB Final Four. From talent relations to production management, they had an opportunity to shadow the experts and get hands-on experience running one of the biggest events in college sports. The future is bright for this group. Some of the young men in our @MBK_Alliance program were part of the behind-the-scenes action during this year’s @MarchMadnessMBB Final Four.
